Major Announcements Archives

This week CinemaJaw goes live, on location to bring you coverage of an amazing art opening that happens to be tied into an upcoming documentary film. We know… That sounds complicated, bear with us here, because this is a great episode!

Prof. John Otterbacher (who you may remember from his other appearances on CinemaJaw) is currently in the process of making a new documentary called “Officially Limited” that takes a look at licensed and unlicensed movie posters, the artist that make and print them, their process, the fans, and the whole industry that has sprung up around this phenomenon. Recently Professor O. had an event at Gallerie F here in Chicago to raise some money and awareness for not only the film  but this whole movie poster movement in pop art. He was kind enough to ask CinemaJaw to join him. In this episode, we interview the Galerie F owner, discuss Wreck-it Ralph with Jaw heads outside of The New 400 Theaters, and talk about our favorite movie vampires. All in less than an hour… Hang this episode on your wall, because THAT is an ART!

Also – This is Red Box Reno’s last episode as the official Producer of CinemaJaw. Reno is the best in the biz, and we have been so happy to have him for the past 3 years! Stay tuned for a  proper goodbye and news on who the next Engineer will be! (Yes we already have one!)

So in honor of our television debut, and 21 Jump Street coming up in theaters we decided we would take a look at The Best Movies Based on TV Shows. Who better to join us with all this new stuff going on than our go-to guy, Mr. Charles Klein! Its great to have Chuck on again as we forge ahead into new territory. Of course no CinemaJaw would be complete without CinemaWAR, I for an I, Hollywood Headlines, The CinemaJaw Movie Fact, and a whole lot of news and reviews! We even go Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, or some such nonsense. Its JAWTASTIC!

Series… Film Series…

This week on CinemaJaw we choose our top 5 in a category that just wont quit: Film Series! These are the stories about a character, or world, or what-have-you that are just so damn good, that One is Not Enough! While some series go on way past the point of jumping the proverbial shark, many franchises turn out quality entry after quality entry. Admittedly those are few and far between, so we needed some help to choose our top 5. Enter agent Michael “Mike”  Hough, a friend and regular guest on CinemaJaw. Mike joins the boys to discern exactly which series are deserving of the Jaw’s wag.

Also major anouncements about our upcoming Episode 100 Extravaganza (Jan 31st, 8pm @ Mother’s 26 W. Division) continue! All that plus the rouges gallery of segments: I for an I, Movie Reviews, Guest Vs. Host Trivia, Hollywood Headlines and a whole lot more! So stop polishing your Walther PPK and take a listen!

Who better to help out on this mission than our “Best of 2011 So Far” guest, David J. Fowlie of Keeping-it-Reel.com? Answer… No one. Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffin’ glue!

Emergencies, Disasters… They suck. As luck would have it, movies about emergencies and disasters are AWESOME! The 1970′s was certainly the heyday of the Disaster genre, but the category has been strong since the beginning of film, and remains so with modern entries. So, the CinemaJaw boys go over Disater films this week, with some help from a true friend of the show who is going through his own little emergency!

Shawn King is known throughout Chicago as the owner of Evil Squirrel Comics, which is the best comic book shop in the city (we say so). Times are troubled for the shop, and although business is up, a back debt is haunting them, and if things do not go well this December shopping season… he may have to close the shop!  We here at CinemaJaw are throwing our hats into the ring to stop one more independant store, especially a comic book shop from closing! That is why we have Shawn on as our guest!! That and because he is incredibly nice and funny guy. Shawn is throwing a fundraiser at our usual recording spot, The Original Mother’s, and we are trying ot get as many people to attend as possible. HERE is a link to all the details for the party this Tuesday, December 13th.

So Shawn is with the boys all episode and lays out his Top 5 Disaster Movies. All that, PLUS: I for an I, CinemaWAR!, Guest Vs. Host Trivia, Hollywood Headlines, Jaws of Life and a whole lot more! Not listening to this episode would be disastrous!

CinemaJaw is planning something very special for it’s upcoming 100th Episode!

The Dude Abides.

You’ve done it, we’ve done it, everyone’s done it. Drinkin’ at the movies. Whether you are out at the theater or home on your couch, sometimes cocktails can be paired with a movie just as well as a fine wine with a gourmet dish. Perhaps even better. So this week on CinemaJaw the boys join up with some girls: the spirits aficionados, Alice & Rabbit, from the hit Chicago booze blog Through The Liquor Glass. Together this shaken-not-stirred panel discuss their favorite Booze Movies, and perhaps a recipe or two. These are the flicks that follow the light and/or dark side of the imbiber. Bar flies, booze hounds, raging alcoholics and lovable drunks are all represented in film and our team explores them all. Beers are spilled, trivia is played, top 5′s are shared! A notable fact about this episode: even with 4 panel members there was no crossover on any lists, meaning 20 movies are touched upon in the top 5 segment! Alice and Rabbit even paired thier Top 5 lists with cocktails!  This was a (burp!) great (hic!) episode!

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT! : You dont have to sneak your booze in to the theater at CinemaJaws newest sponsor The New 400 Theaters in Rodgers Park. Enjoy a great selection of fine adult beverages from thier full bar! Check them out online or at 6746 N. SHERIDAN RD., CHICAGO, IL 60626,  773.856.5977

NEW THEME SONG!

Isn’t it exciting?

Matt K’s dear friend, talented musician, and former bandmate Joe “Piss Weasel” Russo penned and recorded a jam for the Jaw!
So starting with episode #61 you will be hearing our new O.T.S., Official Theme Song.

But that’s THREE WHOLE POSTS FROM NOW! who can wait!? Not us, that’s for sure. So here is a link to the new song in it’s entirety. You will most likely only hear the first 1min 30sec on the show and the last 30sec as the outro, with various bits of the long solo section as transitions throughout an episode.

Thanks so much to Joe for writing this, and giving us permission to use it however we like! Joe… YOU RULE!

We’d really love to hear your feedback on the new OTSong, So leave some comments!

CinemaJaw 13, Special Guest: Todd Fooks

ReleasedDec 28, 2009

What better way to celebrate the holidays than with CinemaJaw? This episode Matt K and Ry the Movie Guy share the studio at Mother’s with Todd Fooks! You may remember him as Fook from his Q101 days, these days he hosts his own podcast Keeping Score in Chicago (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mark-konkol-and-todd-fooks) with Mark Konkol. The Washington D.C native is a 15-year rock radio veteran who’s worked in Georgia, South Carolina, upstate New York and the greatest city he’s ever called home, Chicago.

These days, Fook is a freelance comedy writer. His best poker advice: “Don’t bluff Donkeys.” Fook was the guy responsible for a “Moon the Bean” protest of the park district’s decision to keep Radiohead from playing at Grant Park … ultimately his listeners kept their pants on, but it was a valiant effort. If you see him at a Bucktown pub, buy him a whiskey and water on the rocks. Make it a Knob Creek. He doesn’t like the cheap stuff … just cheap shots.

So Matt, Ry and Fook go over their Top Five holiday movies. Matt takes on Fook in the Trivia game, we all play The BS Game, Matt’s B-Movie A-List, Ry’s Hidden Gem and more! This is a great episode. This Christmas give the gift of CinemaJaw…NOW AVAILABLE AT THE iTUNES STORE!
