A Bear eats half of Leonardo Dicaprio’s body and then craps out an Oscar Statue. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has out done himself once again. Last year he won the Oscar for Birdman and he comes right back with another strong effort in The Revenant. Working with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki they give us one of the most beautiful looking films in recent years. Filming completely outdoors using nothing but natural light they achieve one of the most authentic looking films in cinema history. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass who was a renown Fur Trapper and explorer back in the early 1800s. After surviving a brutal attack by native Americans, Hugh Glass is mauled by a grizzly bear. I do not think I have seen an actor and entire film crew so committed to showing us the brutality of mother nature. I was enthralled by the Revenant. I really loved it. My only complaint is I saw it after announcing my top 10 of 2015…..because this would have been high on my list.
